Fundaments has long been at the forefront of development and innovation. Earlier this year, we formalized this commitment with the launch of our Office of the CTO: an office and lab where our colleagues brainstorm and develop a wide range of innovations. Here, they can channel their ideas and creativity, working on them periodically with a dedicated team. These project teams, consisting of Cloud Engineers led by our CTO Larik-Jan Verschuren, are designed to test and implement innovations while guiding our customers and partners through the ever-evolving IT landscape.
At Fundaments, we prioritize innovation and personal connection. That is why we aim to launch at least five innovations every year—not only to remain relevant to our customers and partners, but also to share our drive for innovation. Our ultimate goal: to accelerate the business of our customers and partners.
Completed projects
This year, we linked two projects to our vCloud Director platform. The first project focuses on gaining deeper insight into the performance of the workloads hosted there. Read more about this here. Additionally, we have integrated a supplementary service for migration and disaster recovery into the platform using vCloud Availability. Read more about this here.
Container hosting
Container hosting is currently a hot topic, and our Office of the CTO is running several projects in this area. One long-standing project is the integration of Kubernetes clusters within vCloud Director. We are making great progress and will soon dedicate an extensive blog post to this, so keep an eye on our website.
Through a vCloud Container Service Extension, we are making it possible to deploy a Kubernetes cluster within our IaaS platform with a simple action. We are also working on integration projects with widely used tools. For example, we are connecting Rancher to vCloud Director to make it easy to use the Fundaments infrastructure platform for container hosting. Alternative concepts, such as VMware PKS, are being rolled out as proofs-of-concept, which we aim to develop into new, attractive business cases for a broad audience.
Backup & Security
Fundaments already utilizes a highly scalable and innovative backup platform with Cohesity. This platform offers increasing opportunities to add further innovations to the essential service of backup. We are currently working on combining security concepts, such as scanning backups for viruses. By applying scanning techniques to data not used for production purposes, we can analyze data without impacting production environments—all packaged as a standard service.
Gathering feedback
Naturally, our Office of the CTO also plays a vital role in the partnerships woven into our services: helping all our customers and partners move forward and offering them a richer portfolio. Through various customer advisory boards linked to each project, we analyze feasibility from both a technical and commercial perspective. All this under our motto: #gobeyondbethebest!
