Fundaments supports youth in Enschede through donation to the Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur foundation

Raoul Werger, CEO at Fundaments: “Fundaments’ slogan is 'GO BEYOND. BE THE BEST,' and with these words in mind, we are happy to do our part. We decided to donate €2,500 to the Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur Enschede this year because, unfortunately, participating in sports or playing a musical instrument is still not a given for all children, especially with the current inflation and energy crisis.”

Jorrit van der Linden, coordinator at Stichting Leergeld and Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur Enschede: “We focus on families struggling to make ends meet, for whom it isn't a given that their children can simply join in. In Enschede, 1 in 5 children grows up in poverty, which is much higher than the national average. We play a major social role here. Unfortunately, we still notice that people don't know us or are afraid to reach out, perhaps due to shame. Yet, we have already helped over 1,800 Enschede families this year, which amounts to about 3,400 children. Our ultimate goal? To eventually not have to exist at all.”

“Fortunately, more and more companies are showing their social commitment, including Fundaments. Thanks to donations like these, we can continue to help Enschede families and children. Our volunteers work with families to determine what they would like to apply for. This could be swimming lessons or a sports club membership, but also a filled backpack or a Chromebook for school. This year alone, we have provided more than 13,000 items of support.”

“In addition, we organize various fun activities with our partners, such as a Sport & Fun Camp, sailing camp, a day at an amusement park, or attending an FC Twente match. Together with the Enschede cultural sector, we also offer a great program during the holidays. Children can spend a day at the Museumfabriek, watch a movie at Concordia, or discover technology through one of Tetem’s fun activities. We also collaborate with Stichting Onderwijsbegeleiding, where students from Saxion & the University of Twente help with homework and exam preparation.”

ABOUT STICHTING LEERGELD AND JEUGDFONDS SPORT & CULTUUR ENSCHEDE

Making ends meet can be a real challenge. As a result, children sometimes cannot participate in extracurricular activities. Together with their parents, Stichting Leergeld helps children in Enschede. Parents can apply for items like a bicycle, computer, school bag, or gym clothes, or request coverage for costs such as swimming lessons, school trips, or study weeks.

The Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur (part of Stichting Leergeld Enschede) covers membership fees for sports or cultural associations. This includes music or dance lessons, as well as soccer, judo, or gymnastics. They also ensure children have the right clothing and equipment. By covering these costs, children can develop their knowledge, social and emotional skills, and talents to the fullest, enabling them to participate fully in society as adults.
