Making the Cloud more sustainable
In 2019, Fundaments worked intensively to meet the ISO 14001 standard, the international benchmark for environmental management. This standard outlines how an organization can systematically manage environmental risks and prevent them where possible. It helps Fundaments make its Cloud more sustainable and reduce its ecological footprint, thereby lessening its environmental impact.
BSI Group
During the final two months of 2019, Fundaments was audited by the BSI Group, an independent organization that assessed Fundaments against the ISO 14001 standard. Colin Keizers, Security Officer and environmental officer at Fundaments, led the process: “First and foremost, we are very proud to have achieved ISO 14001 certification! This certification helps us optimize our Cloud environments and our office operations. For example, we specifically choose ISO 14001 or equivalently certified data centers, encourage our staff to use (electric) bicycles, and provide charging stations for electric cars in our parking lot. Furthermore, we set stricter environmental requirements for our suppliers and proactively implement eco-friendly measures. We have mapped out the maintenance schedules for all office equipment, such as air conditioning units and charging stations, and, in collaboration with BSI, have formulated more stringent environmental requirements for our suppliers.”
Eco-friendly operations
The organization is structured to ensure staff work as eco-friendly as possible. Measures have been taken not only to ensure sustainable, environmentally friendly equipment—using the latest techniques and methods to save energy—but also to improve the sustainability of the Fundaments building. The entire roof of our historic office building has been renovated, and the walls and windows have been re-insulated. Through ISO 14001 certification, Fundaments commits to continuous improvement and investment in sustainable, eco-friendly equipment and data centers.
In summary, Fundaments is very pleased with the results achieved and the new ISO 14001 certification.
