Military Boekelo: always online thanks to the supply chain collaboration between TReNT, Fundaments, and Loogisch

This sporting event is made possible in part by the supply chain collaboration between TReNT, Fundaments, and Loogisch. Together, these Twente-based companies ensure that Military Boekelo is always online, with each company contributing its own specialty.

TReNT fiber optic connection is the lifeline for all communication

The chain begins with the building block of TReNT Fiber Optics. Since 2008, TReNT has provided the Military with a dark fiber connection between Boekelo and the Equinix data center in Enschede. In addition, they have installed a complete fiber optic ring on the main grounds where the Military has taken place since 2017. At the time, various suppliers donated the necessary materials (Electroplast HDPE conduit and TKF fiber optic cable) and/or labor, either free of charge or at a reduced price. After completion, TReNT donated this fiber optic ring to the organization, and it is now owned by the Military. Thanks to TReNT's connections, the Military has a solid network for communicating with the outside world. It is the lifeline for all communication.

Super stable internet thanks to Fundaments

The next step in the chain is the internet, because a fiber optic cable alone isn't enough. An internet signal needs to run over it. That piece of digitization is handled by Fundaments. From the Equinix data center, Fundaments provides the internet signal on the cable. For this, Fundaments has made an IP address available, giving the Military super stable internet. And that is of great importance. For example, the organization wants to be able to communicate jury results immediately to share scores live with both the riders and the audience at the event, but TV viewers at home also don't want to miss a second.

Internet traffic for the Military naturally peaks for only one weekend a year. The first traffic starts flowing through the cable in the month leading up to the event, and it tapers off quickly in the weeks that follow. That flexibility is no problem at all for Fundaments: they can easily scale up during peak loads and scale down when things quiet down again.

All signals green with monitoring by Loogisch

Loogisch is now inextricably linked to the Military in Boekelo. For over 27 years, Loogisch has been responsible for the (data) communication technology during the event at all levels. From technical design to the coordination and execution of all IT infrastructure. They ensure that every network and every signal reaches the right place on the grounds. In addition, Loogisch provides the necessary hardware, security, and bandwidth management. From a directing role, Loogisch ensures that the services of parties like TReNT and Fundaments are deployed correctly.

The goal of Loogisch? To ensure that the tens of thousands of visitors and the organization can enjoy the event without a care. Furthermore, it is of great importance that staff from the organization, jury, timekeeping, reception pavilion, stables, and sponsors can perform their work without issues, and that various livestreams, a live TV broadcast, national and international media channels, over two hundred press accreditations, and more than one hundred IT workstations run smoothly via the IT infrastructure. This means that all necessary data and communication connections on and around the Military grounds must be in excellent order. Everything must work well and stably. With the help of the control environment created by Loogisch in Microsoft Teams and Network Monitor, everything is coordinated and monitored. This control environment makes it quickly clear whether everything is going according to plan.
