Genus Care & Fundaments connected by shared values: solid, secure, and always close

In care, it’s never about yourself — it’s always about the other person. But how do you introduce care solutions to seniors who don’t feel old or dependent? The answer lies in doing it gradually and accessibly. That’s why Genus Care developed what they call warm technology — technology that looks homely and inviting, but at the same time connects users to caregivers, family, and friends. This ensures contact and support are always close by. And when care and connection are at stake, safety and reliability become essential.

The beginning

Genus Care was founded when Jill Mulder and Hans-Elias de Bree experienced firsthand how fragmented elderly care could be — starting with their own parents.
“The government encourages seniors to live at home longer, but the care sector faces staff shortages and time pressure. The coordination between formal and informal care is often lacking. So, we asked ourselves: how can we design the care of tomorrow, where informal caregivers — family and friends — are an active part of the professional care circle?”
The result was Genus Care.

Data as the foundation of care

With Genus Care, Jill and Hans-Elias developed something completely new. “Care technology has existed for years,” explains Jill, “but most products only address part of the problem — like fall detection, video calls, or medication reminders. Genus Care combines everything into one device. You can make video calls, share photos, and use intelligent monitoring for fall detection, day rhythm analysis, and medication tracking. If a pill isn’t taken, a notification follows immediately.” That monitoring runs continuously. “Every 10 seconds, a Genus device collects data — temperature, motion, light, sound, and screen interactions. We often get asked: Where is your data stored? Our answer: In the Netherlands. And that instantly earns us a big green checkmark.”

Genus Care & Fundaments

Jill continues: “Sometimes we’re approached by individuals looking for something for their parents, but most consumers first turn to healthcare providers or insurers. That’s how we became embedded in the formal care structure. Today, our implementation partners are located in the Netherlands, the UK, Spain, and Australia — all working with care organisations across home and residential care.”

“With that international reach, we quickly needed a partner who could guarantee two things: data security and high-quality support. All data must remain within Europe, and data redundancy is a must. Genus Care is all about providing peace of mind — and that means we must have full confidence in the partners we work with.”

“As a development-driven company, we also have unique technical questions. We don’t want to be stuck talking to a chatbot. Fundaments understands that — they act as a real partner. Process-wise, we’re aligned too. We’re certified under ISO 27001:2022 and NEN 7510-1:2017, and those certifications require a critical look at your entire supply chain. With Fundaments, we’re in great shape: they are solid, secure, and always close.”

About the customer

Nearly half of seniors living at home receive some form of care, and 33% say they often feel lonely. Founders Jill Mulder and Hans-Elias de Bree saw this challenge with their own parents. Staying connected and reassured from a distance was difficult — they wanted a solution that could enable both professional and family care remotely. A product that provides peace of mind when you’re not there and helps you feel connected even from afar. From this vision, Genus Care was founded in 2018 — a company dedicated to developing Genus, an innovative e-health product that keeps care warm, human, and always within reach.
