Every MSP needs a good backup, but how can you arrange this in a reliable, efficient, and simple way? Felloo, a specialist in cloud communication, enlisted the help of Fundaments for this. Commercial Director Marthijn Groenewoud and Technical Director Jorian Broekhuizen explain how they can guarantee a reliable backup for all their customers thanks to Fundaments' solution.

Marthijn, you enlisted the help of Fundaments to renew your backup strategy. What challenges were you facing?

As a specialist in cloud communication, we have been a progressive player in the Dutch ICT market for over ten years. Due to our innovative nature, we had multiple platforms active for customers, which meant we also had to manage multiple services. This was inefficient and distracted us from our core business: supporting our customers. We therefore decided, together with Fundaments, to make a major migration to a central platform to which we could simultaneously connect the most innovative backup solution: Cohesity. This was a real breakthrough for us. We had been looking for a progressive backup solution for a long time, but in practice, it turned out that many IaaS providers could not deliver "top of the bill" quality. Fundaments was able to help us take our service provision to the next level. Backup is a large and essential part of that.

Why is the importance of backup so great?

Customers simply expect their data to be safe from external threats and, for example, human errors, such as accidentally deleting an important document. The techniques used to manage backups are becoming increasingly innovative, but so are the threats. Security is our top priority, so we are always on top of this. It is necessary in our view, because data loss can have major consequences and result in high costs for the customer. We therefore see a good backup as a basic service. Customers must be able to rely on the fact that their backup is one hundred percent guaranteed with us. We have therefore looked with Fundaments at how we can integrate the innovative tools they offer into our service provision so that we can always offer the highest quality services with which we unburden our customers.

Fundaments proposed Cohesity as an innovative backup solution. Jorian, can you explain what this tool entails exactly?

It is a cloud-based backup solution for our IaaS customers. Cohesity ensures that we can easily restore a backup ourselves at both the environment and file level. We can do this based on a retention period and frequency that we choose in consultation with the customer. In other words: how far back they want to go in time to retrieve data and how often they want a backup to be made. When necessary, our engineers can provide our customers with a reliable backup with just a few clicks using the Fundaments self-service portal. Fundaments, in turn, ensures that the backup technology is active 24/7 on the backend. Fundaments is therefore not needed for the execution. They lay the foundation, and we build upon it.

So this solution gives you a high degree of self-reliance; how important is this to you?

Extremely important. That self-reliance ensures that we no longer have to coordinate with a backup provider, but can help our customers directly ourselves. This way, the customer has their restored data as quickly as possible so they can get back to work within fifteen minutes. Not an unnecessary luxury, as our customers often need a file-level backup daily due to human error.

Besides that self-reliance, what appeals to you most about the Cohesity solution?

That we are completely unburdened as an MSP. The backups run in the data center, Fundaments also takes care of the monitoring and testing, and we basically don't have to worry about anything anymore. Fundaments manages the entire backup solution for us.

So you have completely outsourced backup to Fundaments; what are the advantages of that, Marthijn?

The biggest advantage is that we can now refocus on our core business: delivering smart cloud communication solutions, setting up modern and secure workspaces, and supporting our more than 3,000 clients. Instead of managing backups. Thanks to the Cohesity solution from Fundaments, we can guarantee all our IaaS clients that their backups are well taken care of.

What was the deciding factor in choosing to work with Fundaments?

It was an instant click. We are both innovative, and we have a great rapport at both the engineering and management levels, with short lines of communication. It is a true partnership. We strengthen each other and continue to innovate our services together. It was also important for us to have a data center partner with high-level certifications—specifically ISO/NEN, and certainly ISAE type 2. Fundaments met those requirements, which was of great added value.

How do you see the future of your collaboration with Fundaments?

I foresee us further strengthening our partnership and continuing to innovate our services together. The market is changing rapidly, and we must keep responding to the latest technologies and innovations. As long as we continue to operate at this level, I am convinced that we have a very bright future ahead together.
