FortiGate: firewall, VPN, IPS, and IDS solution in one
The Fortinet FortiGate firewall offers standard firewalling as a foundation, but can be easily expanded with additional licenses for extra functionality. This includes OSPF routing, which efficiently distributes network traffic across multiple paths, and traffic analysis via an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS). While an IDS identifies and reports suspicious activity, an IPS goes a step further by actively blocking malicious traffic before it can cause damage.
In addition, FortiGate offers the ability to integrate with a Web Application Firewall (WAF), specifically designed to protect web applications against attacks such as SQL injection and cross-site scripting. The combination of IPS and WAF provides broader and more complete security than either one individually.
