Fundaments nominated for Computable Award 2026 with innovative cloud environment for the Municipality of Eindhoven
We are proud to announce today that Fundaments has been nominated for a Computable Award 2026 in the Digital Innovation category. The nomination recognizes our innovative partnership with the Municipality of Eindhoven, which resulted in the first Haven-compliant Kubernetes platform on a sovereign private cloud in the Netherlands.

A new standard for digital autonomy
Government digital transformation is at a critical crossroads. While many organizations have opted for international hyperscalers in recent years, there is a growing need for greater control over data, infrastructure, and digital dependencies.
The Municipality of Eindhoven consciously chose a different path. Driven by its vision of digital autonomy, Common Ground, and data control, it partnered with Fundaments to develop a future-proof cloud environment running entirely on Dutch infrastructure.
The result is a Haven-compliant Kubernetes platform that enables municipalities to decouple data, applications, and infrastructure. This creates greater flexibility, prevents vendor lock-in, and ensures that the government retains control over its digital services.
Not an experiment, but a strategic choice
What makes this case unique is that it is not a pilot or a test setup. The Municipality of Eindhoven made a deliberate choice to structurally implement open standards, open-source technology, and a sovereign cloud architecture.
In doing so, the municipality is leading a trend that is becoming increasingly important in the public sector: digital sovereignty as the foundation for innovation.
Realizing this environment involved both technical and organizational challenges. There was no blueprint for such an implementation. At the same time, existing systems had to be integrated, Haven principles applied, and new working methods like DevOps introduced.
It is precisely this complexity that makes the resulting solution so remarkable.

The new infrastructure provides the Municipality of Eindhoven with a stable and scalable foundation for further digitalization.
The benefits are already visible in practice. Thanks to the new architecture, the municipality can develop and deploy new applications faster, without long-term vendor dependency or complex procurement processes.
Furthermore, the organization is actively building knowledge and expertise, enabling the municipality to make independent decisions and respond more effectively to future developments.
