‍Online services have been offered since the 1990s. Initially, the requirements for this technology were not high, and little thought was given to content security or data integrity. If more capacity was needed, new hardware was simply purchased and added, even for temporary increases. The first large-scale, intentional disruptions of online services served as a wake-up call for many companies. Information providers, such as data centers, hosts, and website operators, realized that structural investments were necessary to ensure the security and availability of data and services. Nevertheless, the number of unforeseen incidents remained high, while dependence on online services continued to grow.
