About us

Fundaments is an IaaS provider. This means that we provide cloud services that provide the foundation of the cloud, or infrastructure. That is also where we owe our name to.

The fundament

Fundaments provides the ideal basis on which its partners can build the perfect cloud. Good building blocks are needed for that ideal base. Therefore we use smart solutions in the market, based on proven technology and with an Enterprise character. This means that we work with partners we trust and who have the same standards as we do. After all, you are as strong as the weakest link. By keeping a close eye on the market and by regularly sparring with our suppliers and partners (that’s how we call our customers), we have been realizing this for years. En all that from our core values: connected, personal and sharp.

How it once started…

On April 6, 2000 Raoul Werger and Jeroen Tekelenburg started JR Online. From there, the organization grew and there were some splits and name changes. Many years later, Fundaments is an established name in the cloud industry. But what happened in the meantime? Raoul and Jeroen, the founders of Fundaments, are happy to tell you more about it.

JR Online

Jeroen: “we started with the idea for a carpoolsite, but when we wanted to register a domain name, we found out that we first had to be registered at the Chamber of Commerce.” Once there, there was not even a company name. “We put our initials together and JR Online was born”.

Noisy server

The carpoolsite was difficult to get off te ground and that meant the beginning of, a chat environment where you could get to know new people. Jeroen: “the server was under my bed in my student room. This rattled so hard at night that it was impossible to sleep”.

The real thing

When the sleepless nights started to break up Jeroen and Raoul, they decided that it was time for the real work. A larger server with too much capacity came. The ‘superfluous’ capacity was leased: first to friends, but then also to companies. This also brought with it the need for a real office. Jeroen: “in the BTC building, opposite the University of Twente, was our first office.”

In 2006 JR Online moved to the Auke Vleerstraat, where the company grew to ten employees. This is where the first virtual server was created, which was one of the first in The Netherlands to be let. In 2009 they moved again, this time to the Zuiderspoorstraat, where the first real customers came to visit the office. Jeroen: “this office was grey and ugly, while it became important to work on our image and visibility. We then moved to the Boddenkampsingel where we experienced a nice growth and professionalization.” Finally, in 2009 Oxilion resulted from this and in 2013 Fundaments.

The villa

Six months after the founding of Fundaments, we moved to the villa at the M.H. Tromplaan. Jeroen: “this was ideal, because the building has two front doors, for both Oxilion and Fundaments an own door.

Jeroen: “I once congratulated a customer with her marriage, because she had a different surname. However, it appeared that she was not married but divorced. That was painful. What I also find very nice, is that people grow together with Oxilion and Fundaments, both customers and employees. That’s really nice to see.”

Raoul adds: “also interesting is that Oxilion, and a little later Fundaments, arose from the need that we wanted better support from the hosting company we were involved with. We missed well communicating technical people who could think along with us. That could and should be better, so we started to do it ourselves. The customer orientation became very important. And that has been anchored in our DNA. We continue to strive for better service for our customers.”

A leap forward
“By using Fundaments’ platform and expertise we have made a leap forward as a company in professionalising our part of the chain.’’

Excellent flexibility
“Fundaments’ excellent flexibility is also an important factor. The viewpoint of making sure something is fixed before talking about the invoice is very helpful to us.”

Modern smart firewall
"We were looking for a solution that would help defend us against every possible vector attack. We really needed a modern, smart firewall and with the Fundaments Next Generation Redundant Firewall offer, based on Fortinet technology, we have got exactly what we wanted. It was a logical choice for us.”

Trusting a partner
"Sometimes specific knowledge is imperative and it isn’t always profitable to acquire this in-house. It’s great to be able to trust a partner who takes that worry away, who’s familiar with the subject and doesn’t immediately send an invoice for every little thing. This partner will have an ongoing conversation with you: what is it you need, how can we tackle this and find a solution? That’s what Fundaments does."

Multiple physical locations
"If the customer wants to have their data stored in several physical locations in view of DR, this is possible. But whether it’s a customised option or well-planned standard options, the customer doesn’t have to worry about a thing. That’s the beauty of the new ways of BU and DR"

Good solution with less costs
“When you look at the connectivity costs, meaning the private connections, as a part of migrating to the cloud, where you no longer need your own hardware or maintenance, your insurance policy is reduced, the company’s energy expenditure goes down and other expenses become smaller, you will see that this is really a good solution.”

Security is no.1
At Cobrowser they’ve noticed a huge difference in how companies deal with security. “There are companies who consider this not so important. It’s essential to us to find a partner who takes security seriously. That’s why we’ve chosen Fundaments. Security is a very natural element of our collaboration.”
Frank Leegstra
Director and security officer of CoBrowser
Time saving and significantly reduced down time
“We can now reduce the actual down time with a migration to minutes instead of hours. This means many advantages for our customers and that’s the most important thing. In addition, it saves time for our engineers.”

Technical Supervisor at Oxilion
