SaaS (Software as a Service)

SaaS, or Software as a Service, is the most common form of cloud hosting. SaaS provides cloud based software, that enables users to connect to applications in the cloud, like email, calendar functions, ERP and office software (like Microsoft Office 365), by internet connection. But why is SaaS so popular?

What is SaaS?

SaaS is so popular because this cloud service offers a lot of easy and is totally managed by the IT service provider. The user has nothing to worry about. The servers, network, storage and application are completely managed by the SaaS provider. The downside is that the user can’t make changes tot he package. If there’s something you’re not happy with, you will have to submit a request with the producer, but it’s up tot them to do something about it. Simply put, SaaS is about providing software from the cloud, so on-premises resources will be no longer needed and the underlying infrastructure will not be visible.

SaaS Characteristics

You don’t have to purchase the hardware (and underlying hardware), you only pay for using it. You will only have access tot he software via the internet or private network. The software itself is in the cloud. We call this cloud based software. The SaaS provider also manages the application, like making backups, maintaining and installing new versions and ensuring updates and security.

Benefits of SaaS

  • Low costs: payment in the form of subscription and only for what you need;
  • Accessibility: an internet connection allows you to work anywhere, from laptop to mobile phone;
  • Scalability: up or down scaling is no problem.
  • Updates: the SaaS provider will perform updates regularly. This frees up time for your IT department to focus on business critical tasks.

Trusting a partner
"Sometimes specific knowledge is imperative and it isn’t always profitable to acquire this in-house. It’s great to be able to trust a partner who takes that worry away, who’s familiar with the subject and doesn’t immediately send an invoice for every little thing. This partner will have an ongoing conversation with you: what is it you need, how can we tackle this and find a solution? That’s what Fundaments does."
Richard Hagen of the Rolf group
Multiple physical locations
"If the customer wants to have their data stored in several physical locations in view of DR, this is possible. But whether it’s a customised option or well-planned standard options, the customer doesn’t have to worry about a thing. That’s the beauty of the new ways of BU and DR"
Michel Erkens and Alexander van Bruchem of Onguard
Good solution with less costs
“When you look at the connectivity costs, meaning the private connections, as a part of migrating to the cloud, where you no longer need your own hardware or maintenance, your insurance policy is reduced, the company’s energy expenditure goes down and other expenses become smaller, you will see that this is really a good solution.”
