Data Storage

Just as you need your memory to function properly, computers and other devices also need memory. A place to store and retrieve data. Whether an email is being read, a video game is being played or an extensive calculation is being made, in all these processes there is a constant flow of digital information that has to be stored and read. The storage of this digital information is called data storage.

Types of data storage

Data can be stored in different ways and all these forms of storage are called data storage. Many devices have their own internal memory, but there are also many places where data can be stored. Do you remember the floppies on which you could store documents, or the CDroms that were shared within the organisation? Nowadays, external hard disks (or SSD disks) or tapes are linked to a file server, and a Flash drive (USB stick) or an SD card for smaller amounts of data. However, these storage media are rather prone to damage, theft or loss. That’s why more and more data is stored in the cloud. This means that data is stored and processed at an external location. Because the data is stored in the cloud, you can access the data anywhere and anytime.

Cloud Storage

Cloud storage offers many advantages. With the cloud storage your data is stored in one data centre. The data can be accessed from anywhere in the cloud. And that’s easy. This makes working at different locations possible. Employees can easily share documents and collaborate on projects without having to actually be in the same location.

Another big advantage is that it’s an ideal place for an (external) backup. This way you’ll always have a copy of your data at a location other than your own. If, for example, a fire breaks out at your own location, you can continue at a different location with your backup. If you want to continue where you left off, we would also recommend disaster recovery.

The benefits of cloud storage:

  • All data is stored in one place
  • Because data is accessible from different locations, sharing data is very easy.
  • Achieving contingency or replication is simplified by data storage.

This partner will have an ongoing conversation with you: what is it you need, how can we tackle this and find a solution? That’s what Fundaments does."
